12v Remote Circuit with Anderson Plug Connectors

12v Remote Circuit with Anderson Plug Connectors

So this idea came about from borrowing a mate's Air Compressor and needing to power it off to get a reading of the air pressures in tires.

Looking into it a little more, any 12v Air Compressor you can find requires you to do this. So when you need to inflate all four of your tires, you constantly have to go back to the air compressor, turn it off, and go back to the tire your inflating and check its pressure to find out that you need more air, to go back to the air compressor to turn it on.

Put it this way, there's a lot of trekking backwards and forwards.

So to solve this I created a remote-controlled Anderson Plug Relay circuit. What this clever bit of gear allows you to do at a push of a button, press on or off to open or close the 12v circuit providing power to the air compressor.

Key Fob

So what does the circuit look like currently? Well, my first prototype looks like this currently. Later versions of this might look slightly different but the concept is this.

As you can see there are Anderson plug connectors on either end which allows me to connect my Air Compressor to the end.

As an added bonus, if you have a Ford Ranger with tire pressure sensors, you can actually have the window open and have the menu open in your dash to watch the tire pressures climb up to the pressures you need.

So what's in this?

The Guage of Wire:

So most importantly the gauge of the wire needs to exceed the values of the Air Compressor so it doesn't get warm. With any air compressor, they draw high current.

150A Automotive Relay:

There is also a 12v automotive relay rated at 150A. This one is way overkill I know, but I couldn't seem to find an 80A or 100A relay anywhere before a beach trip I recently did. Also interestingly most Repco's/ SCA/ Autobarn shops do not even carry anything that high, all I could find was 40A. So local Jaycar had the 150A which is what I ended up going with. Also, side note, know that if you decide to use spade connectors on this relay, you will also need to get the enlarged spade connected as well. Remember this is a higher current which means it will draw more. Finally, even though the relay is rated at a higher amperage, doesn't mean everything can do that. The cable is only rated for 50A max so that's as much as it can do.

Anderson Plugs

These plugs get put onto all my equipment. These are awesome connectors to use and should really be the only type that gets used within reason. Nothing much to say here about them apart from that. Usual 50A connectors etc.

12v 1 channel switch relay with Remote

So this cool little circuit is what makes it work. It is a single relay that feeds 12v into the 10A relay to open the circuit. It's worth noting that this 1 Channel switch relay is not designed for high current applications, but can feed another relay that is.

DIY make it yourself/ or Buy it from me

If you know your way around electronics and 12v stuff, you can quite easily make this yourself.

For those not interested in making it yourself, I am now selling these for $100ea and now am also creating a second version for $150ea which will also include an 80A inline midi fuse for those without fuse protection on their setup. This includes free shipping throughout Australia.

***Please note that this is only available within Australia at this time.
